Seasonal Field Crew

The Latah SWCD employs a seasonal field crew of Natural Resource Technicians who implement our projects. These hard-working folks come from a variety of backgrounds and stages of life to work as a team in the sun, rain, wind, and occasional snow. They plant, seed, fence, and build in-stream structures to restore and conserve wetland and prairie habitat in Latah County. This team brings projects to life!

We are always accepting resumes for Natural Resource Technicians!

 

Our field crew techs predominately focus on revegetation of riparian areas throughout Latah County. Individuals should have an interest in riparian restoration work and be willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Knowledge of native plants and experience on field crews is useful, but not necessary. Willingness to work hard and get along with others is required. Our field season typically starts in April and runs through December.  Hours are 10 hours per day, 4 days a week, Monday through Thursday.

Responsibilities include:

​

  • Provide field and office support to the implementation of best management practices (BMPs).

  • Work as part of a crew of 3 to 10 individuals.

  • Plant a variety of native trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants.

  • Apply seed mixes and mulch.

  • Collect native seed.

  • Weed invasive plants.

  • Irrigate plants.

  • Build fences.

  • Survival checks of past planting sites.

  • Operate gasoline engine powered earth augers, brush trimmers, water pumps, and a variety of hand tools.

  • Operate Latah SWCD 4-wheel-drive trucks, and ATVs, and pull trailers in off-road locations.

  • Lift 50 lb. bags, work on steep slopes, and walk long distances.

  • Work in a variety of weather conditions.

  • Provide water, erosion, vegetation, and photo point monitoring assistance to District staff.

  • Provide administrative assistance to Latah SWCD staff.
