Education and Outreach

Every May we host an all-day field trip for 5th and 6th graders in Latah County. Classes come to Spring Valley to learn about conservation through interactive stations. Volunteers from different agencies and professions share their experience and knowledge with the students relating to fighting wildfire, native plants, fishing, and more.​

​Latah SWCD works with schools and landowners in Latah County to create Monarch Butterfly Waystations. These stations provide a learning opportunity for students as well as habitat for Monarchs as they migrate to and from California each year. These stations are made of Milkweed and a variety of nectar plants that provide both food and shelter for Monarchs and many other pollinators during their journey.

Latah SWCD has worked with Clearwater Basin Youth Conservation Corps (CBYCC) for several seasons. They come out in the field with us to plant, build in-stream structures, and more! This crew is always fun to work with and we hope to continue this partnership.
